Snow Days

Our snow/ice storm hit Sunday night and continued into Monday.  Here in the south, when snow and ice are in the forecast, we lose our cotton pickin' minds.  I know that's a very southern statement, but it so applies here.  We run around like mad gathering supplies and ridding all grocery stores within a 50 mile radius of milk and bread.  Seriously, people were snapping pictures of empty shelves where stores had been ravaged, it was so funny and so southern.

We ended up with a layer of ice, snow packed in the middle and then topped off with another layer of ice about 2 & 1/2 inches total.  Didn't make for ideal travel conditions, but all elements were in place for some serious sledding.  

Y'all this sled was Chad's when he was little, it's a total antique, ha ha!  The boys had a ball on it and it flew over the ice.

  

Chad brought this wax covered cardboard home from work.  It held up surprisingly well as they skidded over the ice.

As for the little sister, yes she did venture out into the ice and snow and even took a turn on the sled with daddy just to say she did...

but she preferred the warmth of the indoors and her PJ's to the "snow angel" look, although her sweet little mittens just made my day.

I got some short videos of the boys sledding if anyone but me is interested.  They insisted on finding the steepest place they could which ended up being our neighbor's driveways.

Thanks to grandparents and Academy sports we were able to properly outfit these boys for many hours of trekking and sledding out in the snow and ice.

Happy New Year

I am well aware that New Year's Day has come and gone, but here on the blog we are partying like it's January 1, 2011.  Here is how SK spent her New Year's Eve/Day...

Sister stayed up until midnight...

and then proceeded to sleep until after 9:00 the next morning.

I guess that's how it goes when you party like a rock star.

Before I get in trouble for not having pictures of the boys on New Year's Eve, let me remind everyone that they were still at my parent's house at that time, so it was just me and my guy and the little sister.  We had fun ringing in the New Year at a friend's house.

We had the best time with our family and friends.

We are now awaiting the blizzard of 2011, so far it's just sleet but looking forward to some snow here in the deep south.

More Christmas

The day after Christmas we left 2 inches of snow on the ground in Birmingham and headed to my parent's house to get together with my side of the family.  I told them we must really love them to leave the only white Christmas any of us had ever known to go to a place with absolutely no snow on the ground.

A safe bet for Grey...Star Wars anything.

I know this picture is dark, my new camera and I weren't getting along, it happens every now and then, I'm still learning.

I think that wraps up our Christmas tour of homes this year.  My boys ended up staying with my parents for a few days after we (Chad, SK and I) came home.  So between all the presents and then getting anything they wanted at MiMi and PawPaw's house, they were spoiled rotten by the time they came back to us.  I heard that right after we left Grey had 2 bowls of ice cream...y'all that was at 11:30 in the morning.  In addition to that, they were also taken to the movies and they have a TV in the room they stay in there...yeah they were thrilled to come back home, ha ha.

We had such a wonderful Christmas break.  I am sad that everyone has to go back to work and school this week.  I have treasured up this time with them in my heart, it was sooo good.

Christmas Day

Christmas morning, as you can imagine, is nuts around here.

Nerf gun wars broke out with the new Nerf guns, including people waiting in ambush by the Christmas tree.  All the while,  baby sister was sleeping soundly in her bed...

She was the last one up, I have no idea how she slept through all the activity.

Santa brought SK a little buzzing bee toy that she liked holding.  It was not lost on me that I was able to get this little girl out of her own bed on Christmas morning.  It was not lost on me that she woke up under the same roof with her brothers.  There has been such loss, hurt and pain this year in SK's community and it was not lost on me that we were all together on Christmas Day...I did not take one second of it for granted.

 

There is a story behind Grey and the circle Coke in the picture below.  Each year Santa puts a circle Coke in the boys stocking and it seems from Christmas to Christmas that the "circle" Coke is the only thing Grey ever remembers.  Seriously, each year Grey says, "I sure hope Santa brings me another circle Coke this year." 

Christmas Day was topped off with a beautiful snowfall...

 

Grey found a cup outside that was completely full of snow.

 

 

These two pictures are so hilarious to me.  We are sooo not prepared for this kind of weather down here in Alabama.  My kids were freezing, but they do not consider going inside an option when it is snowing.

 

A white Christmas here in Alabama, it really was the perfect day.  We are still not done with Christmas, there is more to come.  Thanks for checking in on us.
